Grades 6 and 7

The Middle School Asian Studies/IT program uses the content of Asian Studies to teach technology skills. Students in Grade 6 will focus on East Asia; students in Grade 7 will focus on South East Asia.

Students will read both fiction and non-fiction works on aspects of Asian Studies and learn how to use technology to gather information and present information. Among the projects in this class, each student will select a personal area for inquiry, and learn how to use technology to find answers and share the information with a larger group.

Students will learn to use the computer, a digital camera, a scanner, a video recorder, an LCD projector as well as specialized software programs such as Photoshop, Power point and Excel for presentation and data collection. They will learn keyboarding skills, if necessary. They will learn to use the Internet for research and participate in virtual field trips. Based on their research, interviews and field trips, they will learn to design a class web page and create a virtual classroom for others to see.
