These courses will focus on basic design principles, followed by experimentation in various media. Each lesson will include examples of past and recent works of art in relation to the media and design principles being studied. Each student will keep a sketchbook journal.

Art 6 |
Art Grade 6 introduces the following elements of art: color, line, shape, texture, value or tone and space. Students will develop a basic understanding of each individual element by applying vocabulary and techniques learned in class projects based on Greek and Roman periods. Students will use their understanding of all six elements to create a final project that includes aspects of color, line, shape, texture, value or tone and space. |
Art 7 |
In this quarter long course, Grade 7 students will study the principles of art, which include: rhythm and movement, balance, proportion, harmony and unity. Students will study each principle separately and learn about different artists who worked with each given principle in detail. Students will use their understanding of all five principles to create a final project that integrates rhythm and movement, balance and proportion, harmony and unity. |
Art 8 |
Grade 8 Art students will study art history beginning with Prehistoric times and ending with Post Modern movements in art. The events of each period and their influence on art are investigated to help understand the development of art over time. Students will use their understanding of important artists, different materials ( acrylics, charcoal, clay, oil pastels) and techniques (painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture) to create several projects. |
