Students in Newspaper/ Journalism learn about the organization and production of a publication. They learn to write news articles and layout a student newspaper. They learn the intricacies of teamwork to achieve a class product, the different types of articles including news stories, features, editorials, movie reviews, business reports and sports accounts. Photographers learn to take photographs, edit or modify them and place them strategically in the design. Using software programs such as PageMaker, students learn to create newspapers for the school.

Yearbook

Students in this class take responsibility for producing a school yearbook. Students assume various leadership roles in planning and managing the teams, researching vendors and printing companies, photographing the school events, writing text, layout, and design of the cover. Students develop skills such as time management and forecasting, cost management, artistic design; they develop competencies in using digital and traditional cameras, editing written communication, and working together as a group.

Literary Arts Magazine

Length: 1 Semester

Students in this class oversee the publication of the student literary arts publication. While many members of the class are writers and artists who contribute to the school publication, the purpose of this class is to collect entries, evaluate and select material, layout the design, create a cover and publish it. The process and requisite skills of organizing, evaluating, layout and designing are emphasize throughout the course.
