Mathematics Goals: |
The goals in Grade One are that the children develop an understanding of mathematical concepts, begin to learn the basic addition and subtraction facts, and improve their estimating, classifying, and problem-solving skills. Through exploration and games with various materials, they discover patterns in numbers and develop their skills.

Students who successfully complete the Grade One Mathematics program will be able to:
• Show proficiency in numbers 1-100
• Recognize number patterns using the 100’s chart
• Add and subtract whole numbers
• Understand and use the concept of place value
• Combine and separate whole numbers
• Understand beginning concepts of fractions
• Critically solve number problems
• Collect, analyze, and graph data
• Estimate with reasonable accuracy
• Identify and describe 2 and 3 dimensional geometry shapes
• Apply measurement skills using metric and standard systems
• Count and understand the function of money
• Tell time and apply to everyday life
• Use calculators as a tool for solving number problems
• Mentally compute math solutions
• Group objects based on characteristics |
