SSIS believes in the promotion of lifelong learners in our faculty who pursue ongoing professional development opportunities. Supported by the school leadership, faculty members attend local and international workshops and conferences to remain current in educational research and instructional practices. Professional development funds are provided for our faculty to attend these various workshops and conferences; some teachers have opted to use the funds as part of their continuing education program and/or Master’s degrees.  Each year SSIS at least 25% of our faculty members join 1500 educators from Asia to examine research and best practices in international education at the EARCOS conference.  Several faculty members also attended AP Workshops sponsored by the College Board. Through their on-going education, SSIS faculty members remain current in their fields.
Moreover, the school brought Virginia Rojas, an international consultant on ESL, for a two-day seminar on "Effective Strategies for Teaching ESL students in the Mainstream." Our ESL teachers continue to focus on how we have implemented these ESL instructional strategies and evaluate its efficacy. We also hold “in-house” workshops.  In the past two years, our main areas of focus have been directed toward improving writing across the curriculum through the utilization of “6+1 Writing Traits” and curriculum mapping through Wiggins’ and McTighe’s “Understanding by Design”. Our Teachers Teaching Teachers Professional Development program invites faculty to share best educational practices and report on research or workshops they have attended.  Weekly team/departmental meetings help us to target areas of educational needs, needs of students, curriculum mapping, and action-research decision making.  The faculty and staff at SSIS serve as exemplars of the spirit of continual education and collaboration, and foster a supporting network for faculty sharing and exchange of ideas.

At SSIS our teachers and teaching assistants are dedicated life-long learners.
